World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

The fierce upsurge in conflict in Central Mindanao in 2008 displaced over 700,000 people. (..) During this period, they received food assistance from the World Food Programme (WFP) and basic social services from other agencies and NGOs operating in the areas.

"Any obstacle that prevents the ongoing peace process from moving forward is a concern to the WFP [UN World Food Programme]," Stephen Anderson, country director of WFP, which has been helping some 200,000 people a month since 2008, told IRIN on 6 September.

A special project of World Food Programme (WFP) was launched in Lanao del Norte in an effort to empower the women sector. The WFP was launched at the Macapagal Training Center, Capitol Site, in this capital town.

The HCT and OCHA are comprised of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Oxfam, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the World Food Programme, and the International Organization for Migration.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) is speeding up the implementation of the Food Work Program in the different barangays here. (..)
