MANILA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the two international non-government organizations Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Plan International (Plan) today unveiled plans to link their programmes for improved diasaster risk reduction capacity in typhoon-affected provinces in the Philippines.

Davao City —The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has allocated an additional PhP164 million (US$4 million) to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to further boost the Philippine Government’s Typhoon Pablo (international name Bopha) response. This brings the total U.S. Government commitment to the Pablo humanitarian response to PhP508.4 million (US$12.4 million).

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is appealing for US$21.6 million to provide life-saving food and nutrition assistance as well as logistics support for 400,000 people who have been most affected by Typhoon Bopha in the worst-hit areas of Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, the CARAGA region, and Lanao del Sur. These funding needs are part of the UN flash appeal announced yesterday in the Philippines, which calls for US$65 million to support emergency shelter, food, water and sanitation activities.
