World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

MANILA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the two international non-government organizations Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Plan International (Plan) today unveiled plans to link their programmes for improved diasaster risk reduction capacity in typhoon-affected provinces in the Philippines.

Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently donated 153 tons of nutritious dates to WFP Philippines. The fruits will benefit about 65,000 vulnerable families in the conflict-affected provinces of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. 

KUALA LUMPUR – Groupon in the Asia-Pacific region donates on behalf of its subscribers over USD72,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), following the conclusion of a fundraising campaign for WFP School Meals activities in Asia. 

DAVAO CITY – As the Philippine Government scales up its early recovery efforts for communities affected by Typhoon Pablo (international name “Bopha”), support from the Government of Japan – through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) – will help sustain the Philippine Government’s on-going Typhoon Pablo operations.   

MANILA–Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Philippines have raised PhP7.7 million, which they will be donating to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support their hunger-fighting activities in Mindanao.

Davao City —The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has allocated an additional PhP164 million (US$4 million) to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to further boost the Philippine Government’s Typhoon Pablo (international name Bopha) response.  This brings the total U.S. Government commitment to the Pablo humanitarian response to PhP508.4 million (US$12.4 million).

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is appealing for US$21.6 million to provide life-saving food and nutrition assistance as well as logistics support for 400,000 people who have been most affected by Typhoon Bopha in the worst-hit areas of  Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, the CARAGA region, and Lanao del Sur. These funding needs are part of the UN flash appeal announced yesterday in the Philippines, which calls for US$65 million to support emergency shelter, food, water and sanitation activities.

MANILA – As thousands of Filipinos in the southern region of the country struggle to recover from the destruction caused by the country’s latest extreme weather event, Typhoon Bopha, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is partnering with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to support the Philippine government’s initiatives in building resilience to climate change.

MANILA – Following the recent historic peace framework agreement, the European Union (EU) has provided  PhP312 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to boost the livelihood recovery of 50,000 families or 300,000 persons displaced by the past conflict in Mindanao.
