World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Under a new project, WFP São Tomé and Príncipe is planning to hand over its school meals programme to the Government in 2016. The process is planned to start in October 2013 when the government will take full responsibility of running the school feeding programme in three out of seven districts of São Tomé and Príncipe. 

Josepha Carvalho and Nilza Viegas are examples of people on the ground who make sure that school children receive their school meals day after day. 

On the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, WFP has installed water tanks and fuel-saving stoves in all primary and secondary schools.

WFP is providing school meals in 82 kindergartens and 81 primary and secondary schools on the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe. 

In early September, WFP nutrition focal points and their government counterparts from 18 countries across West Africa gathered in Dakar for a four-day workshop. 
 

WFP has welcomed an announcement by the Government of Japan that it intends to donate US$5.7 million (JPY 670 million) to assist more than 1.5 million chronically hungry people in three of Africa’s least developed countries: Somalia, Guinea, and Sao Tome and Principe.
