Overview
The price of rice, which is the main staple, has shown a generally stable trend since the beginning of the year. However, the price of rice remains higher than in 2011 despite adequate availability. Rising international prices and informal cross-border trade are likely contributors to this trend. The 2011 Comprehensive Food Security Vulnerability Analysis (CFSVA) documented that 45% of households are food insecure, of which 6.5% are very insecure. According to the 2010 SMART, the national prevalence of global acute malnutrition (GAM) and severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in June 2010 were 6.9% and 0.9%, respectively.
