KHARTOUM - The Government of Japan and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) yesterday signed a new agreement in Rome for food assistance amounting to approximately US$ 3.7 million (300 million Japanese Yen) to benefit the most vulnerable people in the Republic of the Sudan.

As the security situation in South Kordofan state deteriorates, I would like to echo the UN Secretary General’s deep concern about the escalation in the conflict.

YOKOHAMA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed the largest ever, one-off donation from the Government of Japan, amounting to US$ 196.6 million. The donation will be used to provide urgently needed food and nutritional assistance to millions of the most vulnerable people in 20 countries in Asia and Africa and will also support logistics operations in eight countries where WFP is working.
