Supporting Food and Nutrition Needs of Tanzania’s Refugees
Tanzania currently hosts approximately 70,000 refugees in the northwest of the country, a majority of whom are from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through its refugee operations, WFP carries out fortnightly general food distributions for all refugees, and provides specialized nutritional support through a programme known as supplementary feeding for the most vulnerable, including pregnant and nursing women, children under 5, people living with HIV/AIDS, and patients in health clinics. The refugees depend on WFP food assistance for their survival.
