UNHAS Current Operations
The WFP/Global Aviation Emergency Response project, primarily funded by ECHO (European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection), consists of two MI-8 stand-by helicopters, currently positioned in Entebbe, Uganda, and Goma, DRC. The stand-by fleet are available for immediate, cost-efficient deployment in emergencies on behalf of the humanitarian community. Given their current geographical location and advanced technical features, the helicopters have the capacity to reach remote locations in all of continental Africa, Madagascar and even Pakistan – and may be easily positioned in other strategic areas.
