World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

SANA’A, YEMEN – The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Ms. Valerie Amos, and the Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP), Ms. Ertharin Cousin, wrapped up a four-day visit to Yemen by calling for increased support, especially from the Gulf region, for humanitarian relief efforts in the country.

SANA’A – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed the arrival of a consignment of wheat from the government of the United States of America that WFP will distribute to 3.9 million food-insecure people in 15 governorates.

SANA’A – The United Nations World Food Programme today welcomed a 340 metric ton donation of dates, worth more than US$680,000, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

SANA’A – The Government of Japan and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) have signed a new agreement in Rome that will provide US$7.1 million in emergency food assistance for almost half a million Yemenis. 

SANA’A – The United Nations World Food Program today welcomed the docking at Hodeidah Port of the bulk carrier Liberty Glory, which has started to unload 17,000 metric tons of wheat donated by the United States and destined to feed hundreds of thousands of Yemen’s hungry poor.

SANAA – Food insecurity in Yemen has reached alarming levels, with almost five million people unable to produce or buy the food they need, according to the preliminary findings of a survey carried out by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in cooperation with the Yemeni Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) and UNICEF.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed a generous US$31.4 million (Euro 23 million) contribution from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for its emergency and life saving programmes in Yemen.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today warned that the deteriorating food security in Yemen caused by rising food prices, severe fuel shortages and political instability, is severely straining peoples’ ability to feed their families.
