The overall purpose of the First Round Crop and Livestock Assessment carried out during the period 28th of January to 15th of February 2009 was to provide early warning information on the progress of the cropping season.

Data was collected by a network of border monitors based at selected border points. Borders throughout the region have been surveyed and the most active and important borders have been selected for monitoring. The border monitors record data on prices.
