GENEVA -- The heads of the United Nations refugee agency and World Food Programme warned today that funding difficulties, compounded by security and logistical problems in some countries, have forced cuts in food rations for nearly 800,000 refugees in Africa, threatening to worsen already unacceptable levels of acute malnutrition, stunting and anemia, particularly in children.

Iraq: Fleeing Conflict In North, Families Face Harsh Conditions

WFP is in emergency mode in northern Iraq as it goes about organizing a food assistance operation for half a million people hit by the latest conflict there. Ertharin Cousin travelled to the region this week to see the impact of this new humanitarian crisis first-hand. She found some displaced families living in extremely harsh conditions and highlighted the need for international support.
