Before the border closure, UN agencies and aid organizations regularly delivered supplies from the Jordanian side to people stranded in no man’s land. The success of the operation was a result of joint UN efforts led by the World Food Programme, involving support from the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Jordan and the Embassy of the United States of America in Amman. But for many Syrians, Ramadan is not the big feast it used to be; it is a reminder of what they lost, what they long for and what they hope they will one day have again. In Zaatari Camp, where about 80,000 people live, big family gatherings around the “Iftar” table as they break the day-long fast is now a distant memory. WFP is providing food assistance to more than half a million Syrians in Jordan through its innovative e-voucher (or e-cards) programme. As we remember refugees around the globe on World Refugee Day on Monday 20 June, we remember the plight of hundreds of thousands of Syrians who have left behind a whole life and family member they do not know when or if they will ever see again.  Responding to Emergencies Jordan Syria Global Middle East Cash and Vouchers Emergencies Refugees and IDPs Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:53:44 +0000 Shada Moghraby 649876 at http://www.wfp.org 10 Ways to Stay Fit and Healthy During Ramadan http://www.wfp.org/stories/10-ways-stay-fit-and-healthy-during-ramadan It is important that staff maintain healthy, nutritious eating habits when observing Ramadan. Muslims worldwide are observing Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, as a month of fasting. WFP will continue to send food and other humanitarian supplies by air in the next few weeks. WFP has delivered food assistance for almost 3.9 million people during the month of April.  WFP in Action Logistics Responding to Emergencies Jordan Syrian Arab Republic English Airdrops Middle East Syria emergency Video News Release Logistics Tue, 03 May 2016 15:11:40 +0000 WFP 649538 at http://www.wfp.org
