Focus on Women Videos

WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the launch of the SAFE stoves pilot programme in Copenhagen.

The SAFE stoves pilot project will provide fuel-efficient stoves to women in Sudan and Uganda, to reduce the risk of violence they run while gathering firewood and at the same time to protect the environment.

Jim shows us the squalor in which Port-au-Prince residents try to eke out an existence. We meet a young mother who cannot even clothe, let alone feed, many of her children. And finally we see how WFP school meals projects are helping to save at least some of Haiti’s children from malnutrition.

Raised in Dadaab, the largest refugee camp in the world, Fatuma Omar is now studying at Nairobi's top girls school. WFP food assistance while in Dadaab gave her the chance to develop her innate intelligence and provided a foundation on which her determined spirit could build success.

Richard shows us what traditional Malawi food consists of. He also battles with a thorn bush in order to show us a community where WFP is supporting a reforestation programme. We then see how people living with HIV are able to provide for their own food needs thanks to a bit of advice and a water pump.
