WFP’s Juba, South Sudan based drivers recognized for their achievements

On June 26th, 2009 an award ceremony was held at WFP’s Juba, South Sudan office for all Juba-based drivers in recognition of their outstanding work. Dozens of both WFP logistics fleet and administration drivers received certificates for their critically important work. We wrote previously that WFP porters ‘carry the weight of WFP on their shoulders’. WFP drivers literally steer WFP through some of the most treacherous terrain on earth.

The awards were presented by Kennedy Owuor (WFP’s Head of Administration, Juba), Tewolde Baraki (WFP’s Fleet Officer, Juba), and Rita Abraham (WFP’s HR Assistant, Juba). WFP’s Transport Manager John Surur, and approximately a dozen drivers, received awards during the afternoon ceremony. Numerous awards were accepted on behalf of the drivers operating in the field by Mr. Surur as it was impossible to suspend operations during the event.

Special thanks to:  The WFP driver team in South Sudan, WFP driver teams around the world, the staff and administration of the Juba office, and Mats Persson for the photos.

good work

i have been researching WFP for my year 10 history assessment, and when i cam across this story when looking saw some achievements, and i think what those drivers did takes skill and dedication to their good, and i think they deserve their awards
