Despite Cuts, WFP Continues Food Support For Most Vulnerable Refugees From Bhutan

KATHMANDU – United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has been compelled to reduce the amount of food provided to less vulnerable Bhutanese refugees starting in January 2017 due to a severe lack of funding. At present, there are around 11,000 refugees from Bhutan who depend on humanitarian assistance.

USAID Provides Us$ 1 Million For WFP To Support Basic Food Needs Of Refugees From Bhutan

KATHMANDU – The United States has confirmed a US$1 million contribution for the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide food assistance to refugees from Bhutan living in Nepal. The contribution from the United States will help WFP provide basic food such as rice, pulses and vegetable oil for nearly 17,000 refugees.

Bhutanese refugees in Nepal facing ration cuts due to lack of funds

WFP today warned that it will no longer be able to provide full food rations to more than 106,000 Bhutanese refugees living in camps in eastern Nepal from January 2007, unless there is an immediate infusion of funds from the international donor community.
