Swiss Support To WFP In DPR Korea Reaches Record High In 2016

PYONGYANG – In 2016, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed record level contributions from Switzerland - totaling more than US$8 million - to reach children and women with nutrition assistance in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The Swiss support is helping WFP to reach 650,000 children and mothers for a period of ten months.

WFP Provides Emergency Relief To Over 140,000 People Hit By Floods In DPRK

PYONGYANG – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has delivered food assistance to more than 140,000 people in the north of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) affected by some of the worst floods in recent history. WFP is concerned about the continued vulnerability of these people as the extremely cold winter is approaching and major food losses are expected.

Russian Contribution Supports WFP Nutrition Assistance In DPRK

PYONGYANG – A ship carrying wheat donated by the Russian Federation successfully delivered its cargo in the port of Nampo today. The wheat will help the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to meet the nutritional needs of more than 620,000 children and women for a period of four months.

Better Harvests In DPR Korea But Undernutrition Persists FAO And WFP Publish New Assessment Report

ROME/PYONGYANG – A nationwide assessment by United Nations agencies estimates there has been an increase in staple food production in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) for the second year running. This, however, should not mask an ongoing struggle with undernutrition and a lack of vital protein and fat in the diet, especially for an estimated 2.8 million vulnerable people.
