    WFP Stands By Nigerian Refugees Despite Growing Insecurity

    Escalating violence by militants in Nigeria is causing thousands to flee into Niger, Cameroon and Chad, putting a further strain on some of the poorest nations in Africa. In the Niger town of Bosso, which has been sheltering thousands of refugees from the conflict, the population has doubled.  “Bosso, a small town of 10,000 people today accounts for 20,000. They fully depend on the humanitarian assistance,” said Antonio Avella, deputy country director for the World Food Programme in Niger. Despite continued fighting and insecurity, WFP is stepping up its operations, in a bid to feed the thousands. WFP’s Communications Officer Marco Frattini spent a day with field staff and refugees in the Diffa region to tell their story.. Text transcript of this video
