Kaundama village, 50 km north of Lilongwe - Elia Benela points to the spot where his family granary used to stand Last year, Elia's wife, daughter and three grandchildren harvested just 40 kg of maize and, since November, they have survived on a diet of wild fruits and banana tree roots.
