Mphako village, 80 km north of Lilongwe
- Louisa shows the handful of roots collected by her children, which will constitute her family's only meal of the day.

Erratic rainfall and the lack of both seed and chemical fertiliser have devastated the family crop for a second consecutive year.

For more than 12 months, Louisa, her six children and husband have been surviving off a diet of wild foods.
