Rising Food Prices Take Heavy Toll In Kyrgyzstan
Rising food prices are taking a heavy toll in the Kyrgyz Republic, a mountainous country in Central Asia that relies heavily on food imports. The price of staples like flour has risen from between 25 to 40 per cent in recent months, placing added strain on the food budgets of its poorest families. The situation in Kyrgyzstan is typical of that in many developing countries dependent on food from abroad.
