Food Assistance to Populations Affected by Conflict in Sudan

Extend until December 2010

The overall food security situation in Sudan presented in the EMOP document is consistent with the FAO/GIEWS assessment/analysis.  The conflict-affected and displaced populations and vulnerable residents in Darfur, returnees in South Sudan, in the East and Three Areas, and refugees in the East have been identified as the primary groups requiring international assistance due to the continuing conflict in Darfur and the post-conflict settlement problems in other areas of the country. In view of this, the provision of WFP assistance of 665,550 tonnes of food for 6.4 million most adversely affected people during January to December 2010, as proposed in this EMOP, is well justified.
