Food Assistance to Vulnerable Populations Affected by Conflict and Natural Disasters

Sudan remains a complex operation, and large-scale humanitarian assistance in conflictaffected areas will continue in 2012. After the separation of South Sudan, the government of Sudan will lose 75 percent of oil revenues, which will affect government revenues and services. Unresolved issues in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) have resulted in substantial economic instability and conflicts in the border states of Sudan and South Sudan.  These tensions could spread to Darfur and eastern Sudan. Finally, poor and late rainfall in 2011 significantly affected cereal production, with negative consequence on food security.
