WFP school meals project in Armenia has a twofold objective: providing school meals to primary schoolchildren in the poorest and most food insecure regions of Armenia and supporting the government in developing a national school meals programme.
Schoolchildren in Armenia, as in many countries where WFP implements its school meals projects, have shown a better overall school performance. This has encouraged the government to implement a national school meals pilot project in 2013 in a move that paves the way to taking over from WFP within an agreed timeframe. The Armenian government plans to integrate school meals into the national plan.
