WFP School Meals Keep Kids Happy And Healthy

WFP provides meals of cooked rice and fish soup to nearly 350,000 school children across Cambodia.  Wat Phnom primary school in Kampong Speu province (Odong district)  - approximately one hour from the capital city Phnom Penh - is one of the schools at which WFP provides hot, nutritious meals daily.

During food distributions at Sankor Khor primary school, the parents of the children come to help them carry their rice rations home.  Each family takes home 20 kilograms of rice, which is equivalent to two months worth of food assistance.

Pech, 12, studies at Sankor Khor primary school and hopes to be a teacher someday. He has 3 brothers and two sisters.  He lives in Sankor village in Kampong Svay district where both his parents work as rice farmers.  In October 2011, his family lost their rice crop due to severe flooding.  He says WFP food assistance helps them get by as they try to recover from their crop loss.
