World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Commodities at the warehouse in Bangui. In the Central African Republic, WFP food distributions have resumed and are being scaled up in the coming weeks as the security situation allows. 

Although insecurity on the ground is hindering the prepositioning and distribution of the food, deliveries of food commodities are ongoing. WFP planned to support close to 42,000 people in April, among others in Bangui, Batalimo, Kabo, and Bambari with 1,000 mt of food.

At the distribution in Bangui, roughly 80% of the beneficiaries were women. 

A ration of WFP food - yellow split peas and maize meal - is scooped into a bag. 

An in-depth Food Security Assessment is being planned in consultation with FAO, UNICEF and NGO partners. If security allows, it will be country-wide and will assess household's food security status, which then enables WFP to devise its programmes.

This distribution took place in a community hospital in Bangui for nearly 3,000 people.
