World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

In addition to slashing harvests, the drought in Chad has decimated livestock. Some eight in ten households with livestock say they have lost animals to the dry weather.

Watering holes called "ouadis" are an important source of food in the Sahel region of Chad. WFP is working to rehabilitate many of them for agriculture as part of its effort to improve food security.

The drought has put children like this little boy from the western Kanem region in Chad at high risk of malnutrition.

WFP food assistance comes in the form of 50-kg bags of sorghum. Here, volunteers help prepare them for distribution in Tlehaye, Guera region.
