Glégnon is a student who receives WFP school meals. Here he stands in the school garden, with his classroom in the background. Through WFP’s school feeding programme, students in primary schools receive a daily meal, consisting of maize, beans, vegetable oil and salt. In some districts of Benin, school enrolment level can be lower than 50%.
Glégnon enjoys his WFP school meal. In partnership with the Government of Benin, WFP provides food assistance to children enrolled in public primary schools through its school meals programme in 6 of the 12 regions in the country, reaching more than 360 schools and 100,000 students.
Glégnon and his school headmaster stand in front of the school building. Part of WFP’s school meals programmes includes technical assistance to the Government of Benin to facilitate the establishment of a national school feeding programme that will eventually take over from WFP.
