Bike riders of all ages begin to fill the Presidents' Plaza at the intersection of George Washington St. and Amazonas Ave. Participants wore WFP t-shirt to commemorate World Food Day in Quito.
Five hundred people on their bicycles rode for the first edition of Bike the World, an event organised by WFP to celebrate this year's World Food Day. Under the motto “Biking for Good Nutrition”, families members of all ages wore WFP t-shirts and joined the celebration.
Participants and the general public received information about hunger and nutrition. Live music, balloons, organic food and exercise were part of the agenda. WFP was joined by FAO and received support from Unilever, TNT and the administrations of the Provincial Government of Pichincha and the Municipality of Quito. Ciclopolis, a local NGO, helped organise the event.
