Residents of the Cumbaltar community in the Carchi province in Ecuador, among them many women, get prepared to carry by hand the posts that will be placed to protect the water source.

Three enthusiastic women take the lead and carry one of the heavy posts to destination.

Men from Cumbaltar do their part of the task and carry posts. There was no path leading to the water source, but men and women found the way to get the posts there.

Once they arrive near the water source, residents of the Cumbaltar community place the posts around the area to protect it. Ines and two of the men have just fixed one of the posts in place.

WFP and the Municipal Government distributed rations to participants in the minga. On the way back home, a rainbow over the WFP vehicle carrying home Ines and other colleagues marks the end of the minga in Cumbaltar.
