The Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) is declaring that up to 263,518 producers of maize (such a these shown here), beans and sorgo have been affected by recent rains and floods, leading to a potential loss of up to 72 thousand tons of production.
WFP staff coordinate with local authorities the delivery of emergency food in communities of the municipality Concepción Batres, in Usulután department. WFP is coordinating food distributions with ADRA and other NGOs in this area.
Two volunteers from the community of El Zapote, Ahuachapán, help transport ready-to-eat foods, also known as High Energy Biscuits or HEBs, to their isolated community. HEBs are wheat-based biscuits which provide 450 kilocalories of energy and at least 10 grams of protein per 100 grams. They are fortified with vitamins and minerals.

She is showing package of WFP's High Energy Biscuits or HEBs after they arrived by boat to the community. WFP has distributed 60 metric tons of HEBs to 47,000 people in 109 communities in flooded areas of Usulutan, Ahuachupán, Sonsonate, San Vicente and La Paz.
