World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

A shipment of 3,500 metric tons of rice donated by Brazil with transportation and distribution costs financed by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) is stored near the Port of Banjul, The Gambia. 

Rice is kept in storage facilities after being unloaded from the ship. Here the equipment collects the rice before it is filled into 50kg bags.

The bags of food are transported on a conveyer belt before being loaded onto trucks.

Once the rice is separated into 50kg bags and loaded onto trucks, the final stage is distribution.  The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) is financing all transportation and distribution costs.
