Beneficiaries at Bakadagy stand in line to receive their cash in the first round of WFP's Pilot Cash Transfer.

A female beneficiary who is the head of her household receives cash on behalf of her family and confirms the amount as instructed by the distribution team.

WFP Gambia Country Director Vitoria Ginja speaks to a beneficiary who said that the cash she receives will be especially useful this time of year as the start of the school year brings with it more costs for her children. 

One of the main goals of the pilot cash transfer was to see a quick positive impact on the local market. Shortly after receiving his cash, this beneficiary headed to a nearby shop to purchase rice and oil for his family. 

Beneficiaries fingerprint to confirm receipt of the cash transfer.  WFP partners National Association of Credit Unions of Gambia (NACCUG), Wuli and Sandi Development Agency (WASDA), and Concern Universal walk beneficiaries through the various processes from identity verification to collecting the cash, and lastly signing confirmation of receipt.

Beneficiaries provides household data to field monitors as part of the pilot cash transfer activity. Sotoma (on the right) is taking part in the pilot cash transfer and her child is receiving nutritious food through WFP's blanket supplementary feeding activities.

An official from the National Association of Credit Unions of Gambia (NACCUG) hands over cash to a beneficiary. 

A local radio station was present at the pilot cash transfer and held an information programme to explain the details of the cash transfer activity.
