World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

WFP Country Director in The Gambia Vitoria Ginja and a monitoring and evaluation team meet with partners in the education sector as well as school authorities and cooks while on a field visit to WFP-supported schools in the North Bank Region. 

Orinda Stewart, a Peace Corps volunteer working with WFP on school gardens, talks to a representative of the Ministry of Education in the importance of regular weeding to improve gardens' yield. 

Since the establishment of school gardens, students are not only able to benefit from the garden's produce, which supplements their daily meals, but they also are able to learn some basic skills about agriculture. Through school gardens WFP organizes training on basic farming practices and also assists schools with providing seeds, fertilizer and garden tools.
