World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Smallholder farmer Faustino  García lives in the dry corridor of the country where the Canadian Government supports over 17,000 families through the P4P programme.

Benedicto  García (son of Faustino) is one of the  240 farmers in the Chortijol Cooperative.

Visiting Rubenia Yanes’ maize plot who is a member of the Association of Agricultural Producers of the Laguna del Hoyo in Monjas, Jalapa.

Canadian Ambassador Hugues R. Rousseau and WFP Representative Guy Gauvreau said  that “today we are seeing the results of cooperation and we are glad to see that the investments the Canadian Government has put towards these agricultural producers have turned out fruitful.”  

The participation of women in this project has played a crucial role. It demonstrates their managerial talents and their capacity in leading their organizations to develop their communities

“To me, it is important to prove that the alliances with local partners, the authorities and cooperation are of great benefit to the people. Today I see great heroes that love their country, their region and their people,” said Ambassador Rousseau who is greeted by the Mayor of the municipality of San Juan Ermita, Jorge Lemus.

“We are very grateful because you have taken away our fear and have given us hope helping us demonstrate that women can do this job,” said
Gilda Zepeda.
