World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

A group of 60 beneficiary women from the community "La Majada" of the department of Chiquimula received training on how to create assets and food. This activity is supported by WFP, ECHO and the Guatemalan Government in an effort to help families rebuild their food security in the Dry Corridor.

TheHuacal Majada community, in the department of Zacapa, is a very poor and isolated and its members were affected by the drought. Nowadays, WFP, ECHO, and the Government support them with food and technical assistance in the early stages of recovery.

Ingrid De Loof (ECHO) and Mahomed Vásquez (WFP) check the good quality of the organic fertilizer "Bocashi", wich was prepared by community members of Huacal Majada for use in their own crops.

Herbert, a 3-year-old, of the "Hierba Buena" community, shows Ingrid De Loof from ECHO how he harvests radishes in his garden.

The beneficiary women of the community "Hierba Buena" of the department of Jalapa can now produce vegetable for their own consumption along with oyster mushrooms.

In San Pedro Pinula, Jalapa, 30 families receive assistance. Besides the government, ECHO and WFP, the communities also work with NGOs Plan International and CACTUS.
