These dry stone walls are being built by the community near Bombardopolis to prevent severe flooding and erosion.
‘Dry Stone’ is a building method where walls are built without any mortar to bind the elements together. Interlocking stones are carefully selected to guarantee the structural integrity of the wall.
The Swiss delegation stands on the edge of the newly constructed dry stone wall.
The ‘Cash for Asset’ projects in the North-West region of the country aim to build 5000 m3 of dry stone walls by employing over 1,000 men and women from the community to complete the activities.
In 2013 WFP partnered with 18 national and international organizations to set-up ‘Cash for Assets’ programmes that employed over 39,970 temporary workers to build resilience in vulnerable communities. The programmes benefited over 193, 400 Haitians across the country.
