"Since we've been receiving this meal, the Kindergarten enrolment has increased year by year," said Mibel Brizio, teacher at the Estrellitas del Carmen School. "In the past, we had only 30 students, but now we have 78. There are no dropouts and children are more active."
Once again the working alliance between the World Food Programme and theTerra Group Foundation has been reaffirmed in Honduras. WFP Representative, Miguel Barreto and Terra Group Foundation Chairman, Fredy Nasser, signed for the seventh consecutive year an agreement to will allow WFP to distribute more than 70,000 food rations in pre-school centres in six departments of Honduras.
"Being part of the School Feeding Programme fills me with pride and having taken this decision commit us with the children of Honduras," said Nasser. "Just looking at the faces of the children beneficiaries show us the harmony that good food and good education brings to them.”
Since 2005 to date, and thanks to this WFP-Terra Group partnership, more than 738,000 food rations have been distributed among 16 public schools to more than 6,500 students in the departments of Francisco Morazán, Valle, Atlántida, Cortés, Colón and Yoro, where undernutrition rates, absenteeism and dropout rates have declined and where nutrition of school children has improved.
