School Meals in the Honduran Miskita Communities
Children from Juan Lindo School in the Miskito community in Palkaka. The food is shipped by boat from La Ceiba, takes two days to reach Puerto Lempira and is then transferred by boat or pipantes to Palkaka. The school meal programme benefits over 1.4 million children nationwide.

This is the best time of the day where boys and girls get ready to enjoy their school meals. Access to the department of Gracias a Dios is made only by air or sea, and the majority of children living here have never left their community since travel costs are extremely high for the poor communities.
