World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

As the walked progressed, more and more Hondurans from all walks of life joined along the 2.5 Km of the Morazan Boulevard.

Two children walk in front of Ficohsa's banner, a WFP private sector partner in Honduras. The sign carried by the child on the forefront reads "Thank You for My Daily School Meal." The other sign reads: "I Perform Better in Class With My School Meal."

The Walk began at the national stadium and it was led by its main sponsors: The Government of Honduras, the First Lady's Office, the Institute of Forestry and Conservation, and the World Food Programme (WFP). This banner leading the walk reads: "The Zero Hunger Walk is in solidarity with the most vulnerable people of our country, to help them guarantee their food security."

The walk's theme this year was "Now It's Your Turn. Let's Change Lives!"

The World Food Programme (WFP) set up this stage at the finish line of the walk, where the "Zero Hunger Plaza" is located. The large banner shows the logos of the private sector companies supporting WFP and the Zero Hunger Walk.

People kept pouring into the finish line long after the organizers had begun celebrations to mark the end of the walk.

Many local schools, including their student bodies and marching bands, participated actively during the Zero Hunger Walk.

The rythms and beat of the marching bands and the enthusiam of the walk's participants created a Carnival-like atmosphere along the Morazan Boulevard in Tegucigalpa.

Students from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) hold signs calling on Hondurans to join the walk this Sunday 23 June.

Some participants even walked barefoot to make a clear statement that hunger and malnutrition are unacceptable.

Walkers also brought their little ones to participate this Sunday of the Zero Hunger Walk.

Several school bands brought large numbers of students who enthusiastically joined the walk.

These children, who are school meal beneficiaries, carry signs that read (l-r): "When I eat my meal, I become stronger,", "I learn better with a daily meal," "Thank you for my school meal," "Ficohsa Foundation supports my education," and "Thank you for your support."

"With a school meal I get better grades," reads the sign held by this girl during the walk.

There were so many school bands playing this Sunday that there was not a single spot without music along the Morazan Boulevard despite the fact that more than 45,000 people participated.
