Kathemboni Irrigation Project in Kitui County in Eastern Kenya is one of the Disaster Risk Reduction projects that WFP is implementing to assist communities become more resilient to the effects of climate change, particularly drought.

Farmers are taught simple skills such as creating sunken beds which help retain the water.

The farmers work collectively on the communal land where each is allocated a plot. They then replicate the skills they learn on their indivudual farms.

By adapting simple technologies, farmers are able to grow enough food for their families and sometimes have surplus to sell at the local market.
