Learning From Children

In Laos, many infant and child care practices persist that prevent children from getting the nutrients they need during the critical first 1000 days of life. Feeding sticky rice to children younger than 6 months is one of the most widespread. In this video, a grandmother learns from her granddaughter that she should change this custom.

Especially when nutritious food is scarce, storage and preparation of food items are just as important to save vitamins and minerals. In this short video, a mother shares cooking tips with her daughter to ensure essential nutrients are preserved.

The Race
A diverse and balanced diet is important at every age. Young or old, if a person does not eat a variety of foods, micronutrient deficiencies can occur. In Laos, anemia cause by a lack of iron is very common.  Children suffering from it are tired, unable to concentrate, become sick more often, and their development can be affected. This video shows kids of school-age that they can take action to improve their nutrition.

You Eat, I Eat
Breastmilk is the only food that a baby needs during the first six months. To make sure the breastmilk contains all essential nutrients the baby needs, the mother needs to eat a diverse diet. In this video a little boy watches his mum with fascination as all the food his mother eats turns into breastmilk for his little sister.
