In 2010, the Malawi Walk the World had 11,414 participants in nine walks around Mulanje District. The participants were walking in this annual event to raise money and awareness for WFP's efforts to fight child hunger and malnutrition.
School children who participated in Walk the World Malawi performed song and dance at the ceremony following the walk. Walk the World received attention from the media and was highlighted on television, radio and in the local newspapers. A total of 11,414 people participated in the nine walks across Malawi.
In 2010, Walk the World Malawi had 11,414 participants in nine walks around the scenic Mulanje District. The Malawi National Football Team coach and players participated, as did numerious local partners. Private enterprises provided drinks and snacks for the thousands of school children who walked, and NGOs and officials provided transportation.
Thousands take to the streets in the Mulanje District of Malawi to participate in Walk the World 2010 which is celebrated in June of each year. The walk is a joint effort of WFP and its corporate partners, led by TNT, Unilver and DSM.
