Mozambique Inundated By Floodwaters

Violent storms in the southern Africa country of Mozambique have flooded 1,000s of acres of farmland and left villages across the country stranded by the flood waters. WFP is working to provide some 70,000 people with emergency food assistance. Here are some of the first images from our emergency response.

The flooding forced tens of thousands of people from their homes across the country. Many, however, stayed behind, refusing to leave without their animals, foodstuffs and other possessions.

Getting food to those in need is greatly complicated by the extent of the flooding, which has paralyzed traffic on some of Mozambique's most important roads.

Emergency School Meals

Part of WFP's emergency response to the flood is continuing school meals programmes for children like these, in order to keep them coming to school and prevent them from becoming malnourished.
