Millet Prices Through The Roof
Niger is currently in the post-harvest period when food prices ought to be bottoming out. But as a result of the drought, the price of the local staple millet shot up from US $29.00 per 100kg in October to over $41.00 a month later.
Women And Children Left Behind
Many families in Niger have still not recovered from the food crisis of 2010. To cope with another failed harvest, many will have no choice but to sell what few goods they have left, take their children out of school and move somewhere else.
