“We are working closely with the national and provincial authorities and civil society and our utmost priority is to provide food to all displaced people in the shortest possible time,” said Lola Castro, WFP Pakistan Country Director.
USAID has provided US$5.5 million to cover the cost of milling, fortifying and distributing a large consignment of wheat provided by the Government of Pakistan. This contribution will allow WFP to continue its relief assistance to these displaced people until early September.
WFP Pakistan needs US$29 million for its relief operations until the end of the year. This includes assistance to people who have fled their homes since mid-June, as well as to families who were displaced previously and people returning to their home areas.
