World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Typhoon Bopha, one of the strongest typhoons to hit the Philippines in the last decade, left its mark all over Eastern Mindanao, like here in Lingig, Surigao del Sur.

Vast areas of land in Eastern Mindanao were literally washed away by Typhoon Bopha. A month after the typhoon, these trees are still submerged in floodwaters.

Despite the situation, the people of Eastern Mindanao have not lost hope. These two men in Cateel, Davao Oriental, keep their smiles while cleaning debris in their heavily-hit community.

In support of the government’s relief efforts and in constant coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), WFP and its partners continue to provide life-saving food relief to the most affected families. In several Humanitarian Hubs erected near the affected areas - such as this one in Trento, Agusan del Sur - WFP’s Logistics Team works around the clock with the DSWD to ensure timely arrival and delivery of supplies.

In the worst-affected communities, where people do not have any means to get food by themselves, food distributions continue. In Lingig, Surigao del Sur, people queue to receive their relief packs.

DSWD relief packs, which contain complementary rations of WFP iron-fortified rice and high-energy biscuits, are distributed to affected populations.

This man is on his way back home from the distribution site in Lingig, Surigao del Sur. Carrying his DSWD relief pack, he quickly heads home to deliver the items to his family.

Two sisters stand in the middle of the devastation brought about by Typhoon Bopha. Together with their mother, the sisters are looking for building materials their family could use to reconstruct their house in Cateel, Davao Oriental.
