World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Parents join hand-in-hand to prepare on-site school meals for their children. Since the typhoon disrupted their livelihoods, WFP's Emergency School Feeding programme allows these parents to have one less stomach to worry about.

Since diet and nutrition play a critical role in the physical and intellectual development of children, the Department of Education and WFP ensure that school meals are nutritionally balanced.

Studies show it is more difficult for children to learn without adequate food and nutrition. The Emergency School Feeding Programme ensures that children can concentrate on their studies instead of on their stomachs.

In the typhoon-affected areas, many people struggle to provide enough food for their families. Emergency School Feeding ensures that children, often the most vulnerable from a nutrition point of view, receive adequate food and nutrition.

Every day at noon, students in the most heavily affected areas receive a hot nutritious meal. No one will be left hungry!

The Emergency School Feeding programme is a strong incentive to send children to school so that their education continues uninterrupted.

Villiarosa, a mother of two boys from Compostela Valley, stands in a destroyed classroom. Her family, involved in banana planting before typhoon Pablo, lost their main source of livelihood since all banana plantations in the area were completely destroyed. They receive support in form of general food distributions and she now also helps to provide school meals for her two boys.

Students, just like these from Inambatan Elementary School in Monkayo, Compostela Valley, are happy about the School Feeding Programme, which is only possible thanks to generous donor support from all around the world.
