In emergencies, such as Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, IT responders must be amongst the very first to arrive to set up vital communications systems. These systems provide humanitarian workers with the tools they need to coordinate their operations.
The inflatable satellite antenna – provided to the ETC by emergency.lu - is light enough for emergency responders to carry, and powerful enough to provide humanitarian workers with internet connectivity in the initial phase of an emergency.
ETC services are made available to the humanitarian community to support their operations. Lady Liz Lamoste & Maria Elena Crispo from the Bureau of Fire Protection use ETC internet to share reports with their headquarters in Manila.
ETC internet services are firstly provided in a central location then extended to additional sites. With Wi-Fi equipment from Ericsson Response, the ETC in Tacloban is now providing internet connectivity from City Hall to the stadium where the UN has set up the On-site Operations Coordination Centre (OSOCC) as well as to the airport.
