World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

On June 19, 2013 the Sahel Regional Humanitarian Coordinator, Robert Piper, visited Diourbel in the centre of Senegal. He met with communities which have benefited from WFP’s village food banks.

Discussion were held between the delegation and the communities to learn about the impact the village cereal banks in Kael had on the vulnerable communites

Robert Piper, the Sahel Regional Humanitarian Coordinator and Inge Breuer, the WFP Country Director on the way to the village cereal banks in Kael. They wanted to better  understand how the assistance WFP provided mitigated the food and nutritional crisis.

The WFP Representative, Inge Breuer in discussion with Robert Piper, the Sahel Regional Humantarian Coordinator.  On this day, the Kael village cereal bank held 14 tons of millet and one ton of rice.

The delegation visited a beneficiary who received food assistance during the food crisis. Her child recovered from moderate acute malnutrition thanks to plumply supplementary provided by WFP. The medical officer in the village calls it a ‘miracle’ for children.
