“Food assistance is of great importance because it means a quicker recovery,” says the District Medical Officer, Dr. George Mapiya. He also believes that the WFP food provided to the caregivers helps to motivate them to continue their difficult work.

Healthy again, these lucky survivors enjoy one more WFP meal before heading home. But everyone knows that the next rains will bring another flood of patients. The international response has saved many lives but the crisis is very far from over.
