While many areas in Homs have been deserted by people fleeing the tension in the city, many other people have taken up shelter in mosques, schools, public parks, and university premises. WFP will distribute food to shelters in Homs, and continue to reach out to displaced Syrians throughout the area.

Though many families have fled Homs, a few choose to return to their homes in the neighbourhood of Baba Amr despite the challenges. Of those who have fled from Homs to Aleppo, many were later forced to move along when the fighting intensified there as well.
This woman received a WFP food ration in Homs, and now returns home to cook lunch for her elderly neighbors. With its effective food ration system and unique food voucher program, WFP reached 821,000 Syrians in July alone.
